Polar Lift is a subsidiary of Havator specialized in harbor lifting services. The company operates in the Bay of Bothnia in Finland and Sweden, as well as in Hammerfest, Norway, which is the northernmost city of the world.
In February 2008, Polar Lift joined forces with Polarbase AS, a company operating in the Rypefjord harbor in Hammerfest. The joint venture provides harbor crane services and operates under the name Polar Lift AS. Polarbase AS owns 50 per cent of the share capital. Polarbase AS is part of NorSeaGroup, which is the leading European provider of support and logistics services for offshore and onshore industries. Polarbase provides support services to the traffic connections of drilling platforms, oilfields and gas fields. Polar Lift AS is a significant harbor crane service provider in the area of the Barents Sea.
The operations of Polar Lift have special characteristics compared to the rest of Havator. For example, the temperature in Röyttä harbor varies between 30 degrees centigrade and minus 30 degrees centigrade during the year. The temperature variation of up to 60 degrees places special requirements on fleet capacity and personnel skills in different circumstances. In winter time, strong sea winds enforce the effect of frost.
