The Manta statue got her cap – Havator did the lifting

30.04.2008

On the eve of May Day, Havator Group's Espoo office was proud to be a part of the Finnish tradition where the Manta statue was given a student's cap. Five universities organized the spectacle together on the Market Square in Helsinki. First, students washed the Havis Amanda statue, also known as Manta, and then put a student's cap on her head.

This was Havator's first time at the event, but the tradition itself is old. Before, the students used to put a cap on Manta's head secretly during the night, but since 1951 they have had an official permit for it. This year, the event was organized by the students' unions of art universities. Once again, the Market Square was full of people celebrating the eve of May Day.

"Havator's job was to lift the students up so that they could reach the statue. Havator was also in charge of planning the lifting operations. We even provided skylift trucks for the commentators of the Finnish tv-channel MTV3 and the radio station NRJ. This was a proud moment for Havator, also because this year Manta had her 100th birthday. Being a part of the event was a nice change and a great experience for our employees. We also want to thank the customers. This was a clear sign that Havator Group can be trusted in terms of organization, quality, and safety. We will be glad to do this again in the future," says Jussi Sukuvaara, the Area Manager in Espoo.
