Series of spectacular lifts during bridge replacement in Sunne

02.09.2008

Now it is time again for Havator to carry out heavy lifts from land over water - this time in Sunne.
The first week of September sees the replacement of the railway bridge in the center of Sunne. The old truss construction across the sound Frykensundet (width approx. 80 metres) dates back to 1913 and was severely corroded. The customer, the National Rail Administration, is working to secure goods and passenger traffic across the sound. The old bridge is therefore being replaced by a suitable resilient steel bridge which at the same time simplifies maintenance.

The new railway bridge will be placed on the existing supports. The bridge has been transported in four sections from Poland. It has been assembled to a single span bridge and a twin span bridge, which are to be lifted into place over the sound. The bridge spans weigh 100 and 93 tons respectively. The heaviest and longest lift is abutment which is to be placed on the northern side of the sound.

The biggest crane in the Nordic countries, Havator's Terex Demag CC/PC 6800, is to carry out the lifts. This big crane, which copes with lifts of 1,250 tons, came to Sunne in several parts. The crane boom will reach out over the entire sound. The total boom length will be 126 meters (main boom 60 m + jib 66 m). A mobile 130-ton crane will be used as an auxiliary crane to lift other objects such as bridge parts, etc.

On 11 August, Havator carried out a groundbreaking project in Nyköping, when the new railway bridge was lifted in place using the Terex Demag CC/PC 6800 - an assignment that became a high-profile success.

Earlier in the summer, Havator carried out both transport and lift of several heavy bridge section in the central part of Gothenburg. This is the heaviest lift with a mobile cranes ever carried out in Gothenburg. The bridge sections weighed between 310 and 540 tons.

Monday 1 September 2008. At around 10 o'clock, Havator begins to lift the old bridge, which is due to be replaced by the new one on Thursday and Friday.
Lecor Stålteknik is the all-in contractor for the project. The groundwork is carried out by NCC.
