Scandinavia's biggest crane tarnsported to Nyköping

05.08.2008

Scandinavia's biggest lattice boom crane, the Terex Demag CC/PC 6800, will arrive at Skavsta Airport tomorrow Wednesday at 2 pm on board an Antonov 124, one of the world's biggest cargo planes. The plane can carry payloads of up to 120 tonnes.
The Antonov bound for Nyköping is transporting the crane superstructure, weighing 60 tonnes, the other parts having already been shipped by road. In all, the crane weighs 1,200 tonne and has a lifting capacity of 1,250 tonnes.
The crane is being flown from the Terex Demag plant in Germany (Zweibrücken) and is due to lift a new 320-tonne railway bridge into place in Nyköping.
The event is unique in two ways: firstly because it is the first time that the Havator Group's Terex Demag CC/PC 6800 is carrying out a lift in Scandinavia, and secondly because it is the first time this year an Antonov 124 is landing at Skavsta.
"Through this special transport, the Havator Group plans to ensure that this complex project keeps to the timetable. We are transporting it this way rather than by road to ensure that we can keep to the timetable. The roads on the Continent are busy during the holidays" says Havator's project manager, Lars-Olof Carlsson.
